Maurice Greene: Jephtha recording by Early Opera Company

In March 2024, Christian Curnyn and the Early Opera Company devoted five intensive days bringing together a distinguished ensemble of soloists and instrumentalists with Chandos‘ world-class recording team in the superb acoustic of St Augustine’s, Kilburn. The result captures what is arguably Greene’s finest masterpiece: a work of majestic choruses combined with heartbreaking arias and exhilarating instrumental numbers.

Since its release on 18th April, Jephtha has been met with wonderful praise from the press!

“With clean and spirited performances from Curnyn’s singers and instrumentalists, it’s a work well worth getting to know. Mary Bevan is a particular joy as the warrior Jephtha’s virgin daughter, the unintended target of her father’s vow to celebrate his battle victory with a sacrificial offering.” – The Times

“…the Midas touch of director Christian Curnyn turns even these passages into gold.” – BBC Music Magazine

We want to thank all of you who supported this project and helped us to bring this magnificent work to life, with special thanks to the Continuo Foundation and the Francis Routh Trust.
