Last April we spent many a happy hour in the candlelit splendour of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, in a witty and sparkling co-production between Shakespeare’s Globe and The Royal Opera. Kasper Holten’s production of Cavalli’s opera L’Ormindo was rightly praised and we’re delighted that we’ll be back there from 3 February-5 March 2015 for a revival of this glittering show.
The Observer noted, in Fiona Maddocks’ 5-star review, that “it was clear, not least from the virtuosic guitar/theorbo playing, this was a crack ensemble” and “Checking the eight names later, I was not surprised to find it was Elizabeth Kenny, one of Europe’s leading baroque musicians. Her imagination and esprit were matched, if necessarily less prominently, by all. Christian Curnyn, a master of this repertoire, directed from the harpsichord with energy, flair and control.”
