This comic opera, a gem of the French baroque, is rarely performed in the UK. We are delighted that Paul Agnew will conduct this performance, as Christian Curnyn is unwell. Paul has an in-depth knowledge of this comic opera having conducted it with Les Arts Florissants in productions at Theater an der Wien, the Opéra Comique, Paris and at Lincoln Center, New York, as well as having sung and recorded the title role.
A stellar cast, including Thomas Walker, Emmanuelle de Negri, Mark Milhofer, Callum Thorpe, Martjin Cornet and Emilie Rénard, complete the line up in a work which amuses and delights in equal measure. This performance at St John’s Smith Square, marks a new relationship between EOC and this wonderful venue.
