In a collaboration between St John’s Smith Square and London Handel Festival, we bring Handel’s epic drama Giulio Cesare in Egitto to the concert stage. Starring Tim Mead in the title role and Anna Devin as Cleopatra, Christian Curnyn conducts an all-star cast of Rachel Kelly (Sesto), Hilary Summers (Cornelia), Rupert Enticknap (Tolomeo), Callum Thorpe (Achilla) and James Hall (Nireno).

First performed in London in 1724, and set against the backdrop of the Roman campaigns, Handel’s operatic masterpiece focuses on the legendary romance between the Roman general Julius Caesar and Cleopatra, the Egyptian princess fighting her brother for the throne.
