Early Opera Company give a rarely-heard performance of Charpentier’s beautifully intense ‘La Descente d’Orphee aux Enfers’.
Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s emotionally expressive account of Orpheus’ descent to the Underworld features not one but three bass viols and the exquisite voices of Ed Lyon and Katherine Manley as the love-struck couple Orpheus and Euridice.
They are joined by an international cast of Sophie Junker, Marie Elliott, Zachary Wilder, Daniel Auchincloss, Callum Thorpe and William Berger to accompany you on a journey through this jewel of the French Baroque. Arias, choruses and dances frame Orpheus’ extraordinary lament.
