Zheng Jiang is a Chinese countertenor who earned a Master’s degree with distinction from the Royal College of Music in London, studying under Ben Johnson. A Study Award Holder, he was generously supported by the Josephine Baker Trust during his time at the RCM. Zheng began his vocal training in Canada under Norma Burrowes, where he also completed his undergraduate degree. He was awarded Third Prize at the Ontario Music Festivals Association (OMFA) Classical Voice Competition in 2023, and has since gained increasing recognition across many competitions. Recent distinctions include the “Nicholas Partridge Award for Outstanding Creativity” at the inaugural Eastbourne International Singing Competition (2024). In 2025, He won the First Prize in the Adrian Clarke Vocal Award at the Grasmere Song Festival, and Third Prize in the Lies Askonas Competition at the RCM. He was also a finalist in the prestigious Kathleen Ferrier Awards, the Ashburnham English Song Awards, and the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition. Zheng’s operatic roles include Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) and Sandman (Hänsel und Gretel) in the SOLT’s 2022 production in Toronto, as well as opera scenes such as Ruggiero (Alcina), Rinaldo (Rinaldo), and Valentiniano (Ezio) at the RCM. In 2025, he covered the role of Piero della Francesca in Jonathan Dove’s Seven Angels for the RCM Summer Opera Project. In 2026, Zheng will make his company debut with The Mozartists as a soloist in their Mozart Birthday Concert at Cadogan Hall in January and will also appear Sesto in The Grange Festival’s production of Giulio Cesare.
